Open Day - Saturday, 27th September

Our next Open Day is on Saturday, 27th September, from 9.30am to 12noon, and is for anyone who is interested in getting a feel for the School. It is for all sections of the School - Infant, Junior, Senior and Sixth Form.

This year we will be particularly pleased to welcome girls as well as boys in anticipation of the School's phased move to co-education from September 2015 (see announcement below).

Whilst there is no need to book, it would help us immensely for catering purposes if prospective visitors could follow the link and complete the Registration of Interest form.

We look forward to welcoming you to Nottingham High School!

These results taken with our excellent A Level performance last week reflect the academic strengths of the School as we make our exciting move to co-education from 2015.”

School Notices

Year 12 Meeting: Monday 1st September 2014 (9.15 am) Refreshments will be available in the Sixth Form Centre from 9.00am onwards. Please ensure you are in school by 9.15am, when the meeting will start in the Music Recital Room. You will have the opportunity to confirm your subject option choices with the Director of Studies, Dr Andrew Wood, so please ensure you have discussed any planned changes with parents and, if necessary, with members of staff via email, before this meeting.  In addition, you will complete an ALIS (A Level Information Systems) baseline skills test which lasts for an hour.  The session should end by 12.30, but if you plan to change options, it may take you longer to confirm these changes.

As this meeting marks the start of the Sixth Form programme, we are asking everyone to wear a full business suit (including a Sixth Form tie available from the School Shop or John Lewis) in line with the Sixth Form dress code. If you do not have the opportunity to acquire a tie before Monday, there will be ties available on the morning.

Start of Term: Wednesday 3rd September 2014 (8.45 am) The programme for the first day will be distributed to you at Monday’s meeting, but be prepared to bring your Games kit for the afternoon games lessons – please check the School website for the appropriate kit. If you are uncertain which games activity you will be involved in, please ask on Monday morning.

Speech Day: Thursday 4th September 2014 at the Royal Concert Hall (6.45 pm for 7.00 pm start).

Speech Day replaces afternoon school on September 4th, so lessons finish at 12.40 pm, but the school buses will not leave until 4.00 pm. You are welcome to remain in the Sixth Form Centre in the afternoon – the Library will also be open. All Year 12s are expected to attend Speech Day in full School Uniform, acting as role models to the younger pupils.

We are sorry that the school bus details for 2014/15 have been delayed, but the Travel Request Form can now be found at http://www.nottinghamhigh.co.uk/senior-school/support-services/buses/?locale=en along with the route timetable. Applications can be made by using the form on the website.

Nottingham High School to go co-ed

The Board of Governors of Nottingham High School has announced that the School will become co-educational in stages from September 2015.  The Governors have changed the Articles of Association of the School to enable this move to be made and have also received approval by both the Charity Commission and the Department for Education.

Girls will be selected to join the Sixth form and Reception year, Year 1 and Year 2 from September 2015.  In September 2016 girls will be selected to join Year 7 and also to join any of the other years in the School.

Details of the announcement made to parents can be found here, together with a document answering the most likely questions.

Headmaster Kevin Fear said: “Our 500th anniversary has inevitably been a period of reflection as well as future planning.  We believe that the time to take this decision is now, when the School is consistently achieving high standards in terms of examination success, pastoral care, co-curricular activities and is in a position of financial stability.  We believe that our plans are educationally sound, in the interests of our current and future pupils, and will undoubtedly ensure that we are the top performing school in the region.”
