London Docklands

Year 9 travel down to the London Docklands for a day to see one of Europe's biggest urban regeneration projects firsthand.
One of the aims of the trip is to observe and reflect on the impact that this has had on the local inhabitants.

A boat trip up the Thames from Greenwich past the Isle of Dogs offers the chance to have a rest but most importantly to be able to gain an impression of the scale of the regeneration that has occured.

The boys disembark at Tower Bridge before taking a walk back to the Docklands Light Railway through some of the earlier developments in order to compare with the most recent regeneration seen earlier in the day around Canary Wharf.

Boys then spend some time in St.Katherine's Docks to see one of the first docks to be redeveloped.  They can see evidence of the original working docks in some of the features retained here.
