The Community Action Group has a lot to do with life at school. Most people know about Community Action through the discos that we organise, but we have much more to do with the school than just the discos. Annual events include the Castleton trip, OAPs' Christmas Party, Christmas Food Appeal, Christmas Fayre and OAPs' Mystery Tour.
Castleton
Several 6th formers and staff from NHS and NGHS Community Action groups take a Year 6 class from St. Ann Wells Junior School away to Castleton in Derbyshire for a weekend each September. The children enjoy games, sports, a hike up Mam Tor and trips to Peveril Castle and Peak Cavern.
OAPs' Christmas Party
On the last day of the Autumn term, members of the group put on a party for local pensioners who have links with the school or the group. The evening includes Christmas dinner, a pantomime, carol singing, mince pies and the ever popular game of bingo. Each old person goes home with a food hamper and Christmas card at the end.
OAPs' Mystery Tour
Every summer the group arranges a coach trip through the Derbyshire Dales, stopping for cream tea and scones. This event is always enjoyed by all who attend.
Christmas Food Collection
Each Christmas the group arranges a school-wide appeal for tinned foods to give out at the OAPs Christmas party. There is always an encouraging response to this and all OAPs at the party get to go home with plenty of food for the Christmas period.
