Nottingham High School Management Information System (MIS)
 
Overview
The Nottingham High School database suite is the School’s Management Information System; it allows for the collection and processing of information relating to the day to day running of the school.  It holds information on students, staff, subjects and extra curricular activities.  All this information is subject to the Data Protection Act and must be used in accordance with this act.
 
Problems with the databases
 
Please log an incident with ICT Support Services and include the following information where applicable:
 
  • Database, Fields or Layouts affected (the name of the current database is in the window title)
  • Issue (access to information, modification of information, etc…)

Request for change
 
The database suite is large and very complex.  New databases and changes to existing ones require careful planning and time for writing and testing before coming on stream. Requests of this nature need to be discussed with the Director of ICT before work can be sanctioned.
 
Changes to personal information
 
An annual data capture form is sent to staff and students.  If your information has changed in the mean time, please request a data capture form from the Database Administrator.

Changes to other information
 
Some areas of the database suite are editable e.g. tutors can write reports.  This information must only be changed in accordance with accepted policies and instructions.  Please carefully check all modifications you make:
 
  • Spelling etc…
  • Correct information being edited (i.e. check term and academic year settings)
  • Correct student record
 
New databases or changes to existing ones
 
If you need more information and/or a different layout or groupings then please state the following when calling:
 
  • Database involved (the name of the current database is in the window title)
  • The required information (i.e. student admin numbers, forms etc…)
  • The required presentation (list, letter, form, etc…)
  • New fields (new places to put information not yet held on the system)
 
Please note that some information may already exist or you may not be able to get information in a particular format, also some information might be restricted.  In these instances we will try to point you in the right direction or explain the restriction policies enforced on the information.
 
We may request examples of what you require, please provide them in clear typed electronic format as this will help in a swift turn around.
