Our Form Teachers are an essential part of each boy’s welfare, both academically and socially, and act as the principal focus of our pastoral care system. Should a boy have a problem then his first point of contact should be his Form Teacher, the member of staff he sees at least three times a day. Form Teachers are the primary link between home and School and each member of staff welcomes contact with parents so that they can understand and assist the boys to work happily and securely in our School.
The House system also plays an important part in the lives of our boys. Each boy is allocated to one of our four Houses and he will remain in this group throughout his school career, thus giving continuity of team spirit and friendship. There is continuity for our parents in this system, as the Head of House provides a known contact point, should the Form Teacher be unavailable. A second purpose of our Houses is to provide a focus for school competitions. The boys are given the opportunity to represent their House in athletics, soccer, rugby, cross country, cricket, tennis, chess, general knowledge and music, with the emphasis on the participation of as many boys as possible.
As a School we are committed to Christian values, but we welcome boys of all faiths to our school and feel that, by living and working together in this context, our community becomes stronger and more rounded. Assemblies are an important element of our pastoral care and the messages we deliver tend to be on the human aspect of our world and focus on “life skills” that help our community live happily together. The boys themselves usually lead our Assemblies and boys of different faiths explain their own festivals and religions when there is the opportunity.
However, the Golden Rule, “Always treat others as you would have them treat you,” is the cornerstone of our belief and is an integral part of our living and working together.
