On Friday 6th June the boys in Year 4 went on an overnight trip to High Ash Farm. On the way there we visited Tegg’s Nose Country Park where we had lots of fun.

We were split into three groups, and each took turns doing a different activity, consisting of abseiling, orienteering and puzzle-solving.

I liked orienteering best because we didn’t know where we were but pinpointed our exact location by finding letters that matched the ones on our map.

When we finally arrived at High Ash Farm we had to watch a demonstration given by Mr. Simpson of how to make your own bed. We then did this in our dorms without much success.

Thanks to Mr. Earnshaw we managed to complete this task. After that we had a delicious dinner of mushroom soup, pizza, and chocolate or vanilla ice cream with a fruity sauce. Then we played outside until bedtime, and got really muddy building a dam in the river.

The next day was full of activities. It started with a hike to Upper Limits where we balanced along low ropes, climbed a high wall and went indoor caving. We wore helmets for all of these activities.

The low ropes course looked really easy but was actually very hard, because you had to balance on thin wires with only a rope to hold on to. For climbing the wall we wore a harness, held on to notches as we climbed up, and had to abseil down again from the top.

Problem Solving at Tegg's Nose

In the caves we had to wear a headlight and carry a torch, because otherwise it was totally dark. The objective was to find different letters to help us make our way through the caves.

This was the first time the boys in Year 4 had ever been away on an overnight school trip. We had a fantastic time.

Thanks to Mr. Simpson, Mr. Jones and Mr. Earnshaw for coming with us and making it possible. Even as I’m writing this report, the midge bites from the dam building are still itching!
