Arrived safely!!
After a pleasant journey we arrived at the Cranedale centre shortly after 12 midday. The first hour was spent getting unpacked into our rooms, loaning waterproofs and getting used to the sites different systems and rules. After a much needed lunch the two groups split up for the first of the week’s activities.

Orienteering:
After spending a short time on Cranedale’s site reacquainting ourselves with the points on a compass we moved out to the centres field – a short walk through the village of Kirby Grindalythe. In teams we had to locate plaques hidden around the field using the maps and our improving orienteering skills. Some took to it like a duck to water others took slightly longer and managed to get lost in the small space…it bodes well for the big orientation in Dalby forest on Saturday!!!

Village Investigation:
This part of the afternoon involved looking at the local buildings in the village of Kirby Grindalythe – it really was more interesting than it sounds! We were able to see which buildings had changed over the past 100 years and see how the village was shaping up for the future. It was during this part of the afternoon that the classic quote of the day came from Charlie in 6H. In response to Mr Byfield saying how beautiful an old run down barn was, Charlie replied: "I suppose in a lot more years I’ll understand what you mean". Thank you very much Charlie…
Enjoy the photos, more tomorrow…
