Inter-House Swimming Gala

Inter-House Swimming Gala

On Thursday 4th June the Junior school held their annual inter-house swimming gala in the school pool. Once again, every boy in the school had the opportunity to represent their house: Year 3 were in 1 event each ,Year 4 could choose 1 or 2 events and the Year 5 and 6 boys could choose 2 events and also be selected for relay events and the gruelling Individual Medley. As last year, every boy wanted to swim a whole length of the 25.4 m pool instead of sticking to a width. The gala kicked off with the open freestyle relay which was an opportunity for the fastest front crawl swimmers in the school to swim for their house no matter what age. It was a close finish with Trease’s House coming first, followed by Hardy’s, Ball’s and Tonkin’s. The heats for the individual events then got under way with the 5 fastest swimmers for each event then swimming in the Final which took place throughout the morning. The gala finished with the Medley relays for Years 4, 5 and 6-again some very exciting finishes especially with the points score being so close.

The final scores were:

FIRST              TREASE’S 278

SECOND        TONKIN’S 274

THIRD           HARDY’S 232

FORTH           BALL’S 204

Winner of the Lovett Cup: 6th Year Medley                      TREASE’S

Winner of the Freestyle Relay Cup                                  TREASE’s

Winner of the Axtell Cup: 2 lengths Breast Stroke           TAIT GRUNDY

Winner of the Cox Trophy: 2 lengths Back Crawl             TOBY PENDLETON

Winner of the Monaghan Cup: 2 lengths Front Crawl        BEN RISMAN

Winner of the Pell Cup Individual Medley                        TAIT GRUNDY

The boys, as always, swam extremely well and it was particularly pleasing to see such great support given to boys who had come to us in September as non-swimmers and were swimming a nerve-racking length of the pool under observation of peers, teachers and parents. Many thanks to all the members of the staff who were drafted in for various jobs and for helping to make it a very smooth and successful morning of swimming.
