On Wednesday 4th of October we had a visit from the “Animal lady”. She showed us various animals such as a Leopard cat, American Pine Snake, a Tawny owl and Marine frog.  The leopard cat was extremely tired and would do anything and when I say anything I mean anything. It would if touched in the neck sit up straight and cross its legs!

The American pine snake had smooth bush coloured scales which by the way are made out of the same material that your fingernails are made of. While watching, everybody could see the snake was desperate to escape.  The tawny owl is a bird naturally born in England and lives in barns which tend to have lots of small rodents. These rodents consist of rats, mice and shrews.

The marine frog, known for releasing pure water. People in desert use these frogs to drink water in the dry season.

The Animal Lady recently visited our School and showed us many interesting creatures.

The first animal she showed was a North American Pine snake which was named Domino.  It was 7 years old, black and white in colour and its skin felt very scaly and very cold!
Later we saw an unusual cat which sleeps during the day.  Its fur was a sandy colour and I found it amazing how the Animal Lady made it sit on her lap.  Zippy the baby toad from North America looked bloated and it looked quite frightened - probably suffering from stage fright!  This animal's back felt quite rough and wet.  The animal which was my favourite was the tawny owl.  Its name was T-woo and it looked very serious like one of my school teachers. (But which one?!)  I found the visit from the Animal Lady very enjoyable and I hope to see her and the animals again, very soon.

The animal woman this year was a great success. The four animals: a cat, a toad, an owl and a pine snake all had both interesting and amazing features. The cat (Zebedee) was nocturnal so it kept falling asleep to everyone’s great amusement. It loved being scratched on its throat and stuck its neck out when the animal lady did this. The toad was poisonous so we were not allowed to touch it. It was only a baby so it was quite small but when it is fully grown it will nearly quadruple in size and be able to eat anything smaller than itself compared to the small insects it eats now. Most of a toad’s body is made up of its stomach.  The pine snake has all the same features as most other snakes. It has a scale over its eye to protect it from foreign objects. It can unhinge its jaws to be able to fit large prey inside. It was not poisonous but it will bite hard with its six rows of needle like teeth and then suffocate the unfortunate prey. It is not wet and slimy as most people think but quite pleasant. Its smooth scales are made out of the same substance as our fingernails or hair. All snakes apart from the cobra will form an s shape with its body before it strikes. So this is the signal too get out of the way – especially if you are under ten years old as it can still get its jaws over your shoulders. The cobra will prepare to strike by fanning out its hood. And last but not least the peculiar owl. Owl cannot move their eyes so they can move their heads 360°. Owls are graceful hunters so they have the ability to fly silently. They will eat mostly rodents and other small animals. The animal lady ended the entire fantastic show of great animals by a quick trick as the owl flew into its box without a single sound – immediately followed by a deafening round of applause as the animal lady or man finished for yet another year.

On the 4th October we enjoyed a visit from the animal lady. This year she firstly showed us a small sized snake, which was completely harmless to humans. Secondly she show us a small frog called the marine frog which was poisonous in defence and it also blew itself up in size to scare predators away. Thirdly the animal lady showed us a very cute leopard cat, which kept on falling asleep, and her techniques of getting it up were hilarious. Finally she showed us the fourth animal, which was a cute owl though as it was trained well it could fly back into its own cage.
All in all animal lady was a funny and enjoyable day for the school.
