Sunday was the day of chess. Our Polish visitors played in the Nottingham Open Chess Rapid Play at Bramcote. This was one of the reasons why they came to visit us. It was an individual tournament rather than team and they were entered in the Open and Minor sections. It was nice to see quite a few of our boys had entered too. With one Round to go in the Open Daniel Sadzikowski was on 3½ in 4th place with 3 other players ahead on 4 points. He was in with a chance of a prize if he could win. Unfortunately he lost, but it was close, both players made rapid moves against the clock and finally Daniel’s flag dropped. It was exciting stuff.
Results were:
BARSKI Radoslaw 3
LOREK Miłlosz 2
SADZIKOWSKI Daniel 3½
RUDOL Maurycy 3½ in the Minor
TRZEP Julia 0
KOWALSKA Katarzyna 0
SZUSTER Ewa 2
LACH Martyna 2
Monday saw them play our School teams. The team included Kishan Lakhani, Toby Thurgood, Oliver Exton, Hamzah Ali, Eamonn Lim, Lawrence Alfred and Arrav Gupta Kaistha.
The final result was 4-4 with the Polish school having the better of the top four boards.
In the evening an enjoyable time was taken up with chess at West Nottingham chess club.
