Year 5 - Visit of the Tutors...
Mrs Hopkins made a welcome return visit to the school, this time to conduct a Tudor workshop with year 5. To begin with the boys were given mystery objects to examine closely. They had to work out what these objects were and there were some weird and wonderful conclusions! When Mrs Hopkins finally enlightened us, there was surprise at some of them, and more than a little distaste at the lavatorial arrangements in those days!
After that the boys tried their hand (literally!) at Tudor writing with quill pens. This proved somewhat laborious and they were pleased that they didn't have to write a long story! They made hornbooks, which is what Tudor schoolboys used to practise their letters.
The boys enjoyed the workshop. They learned a little more about life in Tudor times and increased their appreciation of the advantages of life in the 21st century.
