On Friday, 23rd November Nottingham High School was very privileged to welcome the highly accomplished and respected American trombonist Don Lucas. Don, who was in the country to teach at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama the previous day, has a world-wide reputation not only as a performer but as a teacher and came to the School to teach a brass master class. Attended by pupils and parents from other schools in the area, as well as our own High School boys, the masterclass inspired the audience, many of whom queued up after the recital to ask Don for further tips.
Don is a highly entertaining, enthusiastic, and experienced musician, having performed and taught in some of the most famous musical venues around the world. He has the honour of having received the only Premier Prix Diploma ever awarded to a brass player in the history of the London Guildhall School of Music, and is listed as one of the most outstanding musicians of the 20th Century.
