New Headmaster
Mr Kevin Fear

New Headmaster

The second interviews were held earlier this week for the recruitment of a Headmaster to succeed Chris Parker on his retirement in April 2007. From a talented field I am delighted to advise you that the Governors have invited Kevin Fear currently the Deputy Head (Academic & Marketing) at the School to accept the position subject to agreement of an acceptable contract and a satisfactory medical.

Kevin was educated at Douai School, near Reading before going on to Southampton University to read History.  After this he went to Nottingham University where he obtained his PGCE teaching qualification.  His first employment was at the King’s School, Chester from September 1986 where he taught History and ran the football team (achieving national level success in winning the Independent Schools’ FA Cup).  He became Head of the History Department in 1990 and in 1997 also took on the responsibility for the marketing of King’s School.

In his time at the High School Kevin has been responsible for a great deal of innovation in recent years including  the production of the current school prospectus, the introduction of electronic reporting, the development of the school website as well as introducing the taster day for Year 5 pupils, and the Victoria Centre exhibition.  He has also been responsible for all school publications.  In the Deputy Head role Kevin has been chairing the Curriculum committee and this drew up the School’s curriculum development plan. Kevin also acted as a link with the inspectors on the recent ISI inspection.  He has worked with both the Friends of Nottingham High School association and Old Nottinghamians’ society as a member of their committees.

Kevin is aged 43, married to Denise with two children Emma aged 7 and Adam aged 5.  Kevin has been working at the High School since September 2000, first as Senior Teacher and then since 2004 as Deputy Head (Academic/Marketing).Outside of school Kevin is kept busy by the energy of his children.  He does though enjoy all sport but above all following the fortunes of Arsenal.

In order to prepare Kevin for the challenge of leading the School towards the 500th anniversary  he will be relinquishing his history teaching commitments from September 2006 and will then be away from the School early in Spring 2007 on a Leadership Development Programme. In the meantime he will be working with Chris Parker to effect a smooth handover whilst at the same time putting together his own plans and vision for the future of the School .

I am sure that you will all join me in congratulating Kevin on his appointment and in wishing him every success in the new post .
