In the event of bad weather we will endeavour to use the home page of the website to provide information but we can not guarantee that this will be possible.
Read the following bad weather routine carefully, and establish a clear plan with your parents early in the Autumn Term, well before any emergency takes place.
If the weather is so bad that early closure seems advisable, the Headmaster will make a decision, in consultation with the Headmaster of the Junior School. If, as is probable, the time of school buses is to be altered, agreement will also be made with the Headmistress of Nottingham Girls’ High School. School bus times can only be altered up to about 8 a.m. and families should be aware that revised timings have proved unreliable in the past.
If School ends early, you will be allowed to go straight home by whatever route seems most likely to be open. It is essential that you discuss with your parents the route likely to be attempted well before any emergency takes place.
If you have a younger brother in the Junior School, you should report to the assembly point. The Headmaster of the Junior School, however, has stated that his boys will not be allowed to leave before normal school time without the express permission, recorded in advance or given at the time, of their parents.
If you are responsible for a younger sister, you should make your way to the Girls’ High School Junior School and follow the directions of the Headmistress of the Junior School.
If you can only travel by school bus you should remain in the Library until your bus arrives. A list will be taken of such boys and held by Reception so that incoming messages from parents can be passed on quickly. You must not wait anywhere else in the buildings.
If you are normally fetched by parents and have no alternative return route you must also remain in the library. It is, of course, desirable for alternative routes to have been agreed, otherwise delays incurred by your parents struggling into school may be considerable.
If you cannot gain access into your home before a particular time you may remain in the library rather than risk arriving home too early. (We hope this will apply to very few boys.)
We ask parents not to phone the School unless absolutely necessary. Many school phones will be in use by boys hoping to phone their parents, and, although some lines will be kept clear for incoming calls, mobile phones are clearly useful in the context of boy-parent discussions. The best way to avoid stressful arrangements on the day is for all boys to establish their own bad weather procedure with their parents well in advance, and for parents to assume that this will be followed if very bad weather conditions are forecast.
If weather conditions deteriorate sharply in an area some distance from the school, for example, Mansfield, Derby or Newark, parents living in that area are free to phone and ask for their sons to be released early and we will give permission for this. This procedure should only be adopted under extreme conditions.
It is most important that you bring adequate outer clothing to school, even if you usually travel by car.
