On 18th April the School's Big Band played a concert for a very special audience. Pupils at Aspley Wood School in Aspley were treated to a spirited performance by the band, and despite many of the children having profound learning difficulties, they were able to clap along and even play percussion instruments in time with the music.
Nottingham High School's music teacher, Mr Douglas, said “We used music based on Latin rhythms which we knew would excite the children and would be easy for them to take part in. We were delighted to be able to perform at Aspley Wood and it was a very memorable performance for all involved.”
Chair of Governors at Aspley Wood School, Dr Alex Macdonald, whose son, Edward, plays bass in the Big Band, and who also has a son at Aspley Wood, said "It was astounding to witness the children moving and playing along in time to the music. It was a striking demonstration of the power of music in overcoming communication difficulties. The head teacher, Mrs Barbara Mole, said it was quite simply the best event that she had witnessed in her 13 years at the school. Thank you!"
