Expedition to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands
This summer an intrepid group of fourteen sixth form students and two teachers visited Ecuador to enjoy a challenging and varied itinerary.
The group travelled deep into the Amazon Basin and were privileged to enter Huaorani territory to experience untouched primary rainforest. The reward was rare sightings of jaguar and puma as well as tapir, caiman, many types of monkey, outstanding bird life and millions of insects.
All the team reached 5000 m on Cotopaxi (the world’s highest active volcano) and they completed a number of treks in the Andes which included Quilotoa and Pululahua craters.
The group also went to the Galapagos Islands and enjoyed seeing the spectacular wildlife at close quarters, which included snorkelling with sea lions, rays, turtles and sharks.
