Year Groups
Finding your friends: tips for ON’s
When searching for your friends with ONLine, you can use a variety of criteria, including the years they were at school and the year in which they left. Some of your friends will have left after A Levels, some before, not all will have started at age 11 and some may have only been at Nottingham High School for a short while. So, don’t forget to search over a range of years if you want to find everyone who was in your class.
Search by Year Group
You can also search by year group — this is the best way to find everyone who was in the same class or year as yourself. Please note that your Year Group is not necessarily the same as your Leaver Year: your year group is the summer of the year in which your contemporaries were in the Upper VIth at Nottingham High School, regardless of whether or not you were in the 6th form yourself. Information is sketchy, so several of our first members have no year group indicated. If no year group is shown in your Personal Details record, then please tell us: remember to include what class you were in when you left Nottingham High School (e.g. Upper VIth) and what year that was (e.g. 1970). Add your data!
If you don’t add your data, then don’t be surprised if others cannot find you. Please do fill in when you joined Nottingham High School and when you left (and everything else of course)!
Events: leavers’ groups
When you read about planned reunions on ONLine, you will notice that, every year, we have at least one event aimed at a particular leavers’ year group. For example, we might organise a reunion for everyone who left in 1990. OK, so you left in 1990 — is the reunion for you? The answer is: not necessarily... For clarity, we define your leavers’ year as the year when other members of your year group would have left Nottingham High School at the end of Upper VIth (age 18). So, irrespective of when you actually left Nottingham High School, if the rest of your year group left in 1995 after their A Levels at the end of their second year in the Sixth Form, then your leavers’ year group is 1995.
Examples
If you joined Nottingham High School at the age of 11 in September 1991 (Year 7), then irrespective of when you left the school, you are part of the 1998 year group as July 1998 was the date when your class would have left Nottingham High School at the end of their year in the Upper VIth.
If you joined Nottingham High Prep School at the age of 7 in September 1962, then irrespective of when you left the school, you are part of the 1973 year group as July 1973 was the date when your class would have left the school after the end of their second year in the VIth Form.
If you left Nottingham High School at the age of 14 in December 1989 and you were in Year 9, then you are part of the 1994 year group as July 1994 was the date when your class would have left the school after the end of their second year in the VIth Form.
