NO PARKING IN FRONT OF JUNIOR SCHOOL GATES
Parents are reminded not to park in front of the Junior School gates which have double yellow lines there. We are keen to keep this access free at all times as it is an important route into the school site in the event of a fire in the Junior School or Founder Hall block and is also a regularly used exit to the School. Parents can park in the yard after 4.15pm if they wish to pick their sons up from after-school club in the Junior School or any other school event.
D of E - IMPORTANT NOTICE
The D of E Record Books (blue A6 sized book and the Tracks booklet) will become obsolete on 1st April 2013.
If your son is still using this style of Record Book to record his D of E activities, then the book MUST be submitted to KCC for processing BEFORE 1st March 2013
Your son MUST also have to have logged onto eDofE to activate his account, in order that the Record Book can be accepted.
After the 1st April 2013, the only way to record your D of E experiences will be to log in using the eDofE system.
Boys engaged in the D of E scheme in the school have been provided with a eDofE login number, this will have to be used as the sole means of recording his activities after the 1st April.
If you have any queries about this, please do not hesitate to contact Mr Clayton (KCC)
STAYING AFTER SCHOOL - A MESSAGE FOR PARENTS
4.15pm is the latest time for Senior School boys to be on the school site if not involved in an organised after-school activity or using the Library.
We feel that the 4.15pm deadline gives everyone adequate time to sort out books and kit and set off for home. Boys staying to use the Library can obtain light refreshments from the Brasserie but must be in the Library by 4.30pm.
The Yard and other areas around the School are not supervised after 4 o’clock, so playing in the Yard or elsewhere will not be an option in future. Boys must remain in the Library until collected.
Parking is available in the Yard from 4.15pm if you are collecting your son. Please text him when you arrive. If you need to phone the Library to get a message to your son the number is 0115 845 2252.
BRASSERIE AFTER SCHOOL
Parents are reminded that the Sixth Form Brasserie is open from 4.00pm until 5.30pm during term time, where you are welcome to buy a selection of hot and cold drinks, along with a selection of sandwiches and cakes, perhaps whilst waiting for your son to finish an after school activity, or indeed with your son! This, as many of you will be aware, is located on the first floor of the main buildings, above the Dining Hall, and can best be accessed by coming in through the north entrance from the playground and up the stairs in the middle corridor. Parking is available in the main playground from 4.20pm.
CARTER'S EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION
The Trustees of Carter's Educational Foundation may pay discretionary grants this year to persons under the age of 25 years living (or having a parent living) in the Ancient Parish of Wilford. These grants may be used to assist with your education at any school, university or other place of learning approved by the Trustees, or to help you enter a Trade or Profession.
The Ancient Parish of Wilford in broad terms includes: Wilford Village, Silverdale, Compton Acres, part of West Bridgford (mainly west of Loughborough Road) and some of the southern parts of The Meadows.
Please see website www.wilford-carters-education.org.uk.
PARKING AROUND VALLEY ROAD
Would parents please remember that parking around Valley Road is extremely limited, it is a residential area, and there are parking restrictions in force, particularly on Tring Vale. Whilst the restrictions are imposed by the authorities and not the School, the School does support their introduction in the interests of being a good neighbour in the community in which we operate. All parents and other visitors must make sure that they park with sensitivity for the needs of the local residents, and only in strict accordance with the restrictions placed on the public highway. Pay and display parking is available at weekends in the City Hospital car park on the opposite side of Hucknall Road from the fields, where the School has agreed with the hospital that, subject to the payment of the normal ticket price, cars can be parked whilst visiting the school playing fields.
PAYMENT BY CREDIT/DEBIT CARDS
The School can now accept payment for items such as shop purchases, catering account funding and school trips by credit or debit card. Payment can be made at the School Shop or the General Office, and we can accept payment on all major cards except American Express, and transactions will be subject to the following fees:
Debit cards All amounts No charge
Personal credit cards Up to £500 No charge
Above £500 1.90%
Business credit cards Up to £500 No charge
Above £500 2.50%
Payment of school fees remains payable by direct debit in line with the parental agreement.
CONTACTING STUDENTS IN THE LIBRARY AFTER 5PM
Parents are reminded that they can phone the library direct on 0115 845 2252 after 5pm when the switchboard closes, if they need to get a message to their son.
PASSING ON MESSAGES VIA RECEPTION
Please note that you should only ask Reception to pass on a message to your son in the event of a genuine emergency. The only way that this can be done is for the receptionist to leave her desk and deliver the message but this prevents other people having their calls answered. Please only do this if there is a genuine emergency need.
If your call to the School is not answered immediately please be aware that this is probably because we are dealing with another call. Our reception is manned each day from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. If you hang on the line your call will be answered as soon as the line becomes free.
PARKING ON WAVERLEY MOUNT
Could we respectfully remind parents not to park in front of the Junior School gates (or on the kerb) on Waverley Mount when dropping off or picking up your son. The gates must be kept clear at all times.
Unfortunately we have had to speak to a number of parents recently who have blocked access for visitors to the School and departing members of staff.
Thankfully, we have not had to deal with a situation whereby access has been restricted for emergency vehicles. Could we ask all parents to use the nearby Park and Ride facility, or alternatively when picking up your son after 4.20pm, to use the Senior School’s playground. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.
DRIVING IN THE SCHOOL YARD
In the interests of safety, no vehicles may be driven into the School Yard between 8.15 in the morning and 4.20 in the afternoon. At other times speed must not exceed walking pace.
Sixth Formers may not drive on the school site at any time unless they have specific permission from a member of the school’s SMT.
Thank you all for your co-operation.
