On Friday 9th January the eleven AS-Level Politics students found themselves at a freezing Nottingham train station at 8.00am to meet Mr Poole and Mr Cramp, ready to take the train journey to St Pancras. Little did we know that moments later the train would be delayed and then cancelled. However, Mr Poole organised for us to board the next train at 9.02am.
On arrival at St Pancras we swiftly made our way to the British Library and its exhibition on the development of rights in Britain. This display was as informative as it was interesting, with artefacts and displays ranging from Magna Carta through the ages to the 1998 Human Rights Act.
After lunch we then moved on to Parliament, entering via Portcullis House. After a brief presentation, we were assigned our tour guides and taken on a tour of the Palace of Westminster, including going into the House of Lords and the House of Commons.
This experience was unforgettable; after seeing the beautiful rooms, myself and Tom Heath found ourselves standing in the House of Commons at the dispatch box where the Prime Minister himself stands!
After our tour we made one last stop for food and all eleven students found themselves fast asleep on the train after a busy and eventful day.
Thanks go to Mr Poole and Mr Cramp for organising such an opportunity.
