A team of four travelled to Imperial College, London as one of twelve teams which qualified for the finals of the inaugural Team Chess Challenge. We came a very creditable 5th (12.5 points our of a possible 24) losing to the winners Manchester Grammar School 0 - 4 and to the runners-up Wilson's 1 - 3, but drawing with RGS Newcastle 2 - 2 and beating: Queen Elizabeth's Hospital School, Bristol 4 - 0, Queen Mary's Grammar School, Walsall 3 - 1, Queen Elizabeth's Barnet 2.5 - 1.5.
Over Easter Harry Croasdale, Saaras Mehan and John Croasdale travelled to the Czech Republic as part of the England Junior squad, as did Karam Sangha on another trip during the February half-term to Germany.
160 Chess players competed in the Nottingham Congress over the week-end of 29 & 30 March, which was held at NHS. Two NHS players did particularly well. Karam Sangha was unbeaten in the Under 13s grade Intermediate Section with a score of 3 out of 5. The best performance was by Hari Solomonides who was joint winner of the Under 16s grade Major section with a score of 4 points out of 5 - ahead of nearly 50 other players, both adults and juniors and winning a three figure prize!
