Nottingham High School CCF Army Section consists of around 100 Cadets and 7 officers. Each year between 30 and 40 cadets from year 10 join the section as a part of their extra curricular activities requirement. Historically, CCF Army section has been the most popular option for boys.
Field Days
During the winter term the Army section undertakes an overnight field exercise, where year 10 cadets are introduced to fieldcraft – and they take part in extensive training, teaching them to live in the field, and a variety of skills that they will need to employ in further field exercises, such as patrolling skills, camouflage, and leadership and initiative.
In this field day year 11 cadets take part in a blank firing exercise and further develop their fieldcraft and military skills, with the aim of learning new skills and developing those they already have from previous training to a higher level.
During the Summer Term another field exercise is undertaken, which provides year 10 with their first experience of a blank firing exercise, and where they are taught extensive section level infantry tactics, such as section attacks, ambushes, and reconnaissance patrolling.

Annual Camp
Annual Camp takes place at the beginning of the Summer Holidays, and is a week long residential course where cadets undertake a wide variety of training. This week is essential to the development of skills for cadets, and it is therefore vital that all attend. The activities typically include adventurous training, military skills, leadership, competitions, range days, and an overnight exercise phase. Training is from qualified members of the regular army cadet training teams, and is always diverse and exciting, with activities such as paintballing, climbing, sailing, and live firing.
This year's annual camp took place in Crowborough and was another excellent week. Thanks to an excellent training package and the support of the contingent staff, the week was one of the best camps we have attended, and the boys were a credit to the school. For more details see here.
