Cadet Leadership Course
In July each year the Cadet Training Centre holds 3 week-long Cadet Leadership Courses for all MOD-sponsored cadet forces. The Aim of the Cadet Leadership Course is to develop cadets' initiative and self-reliance and to exercise them in the problems of practical leadership. The course is physically demanding, so participants must be fit and reasonably strong. The course is normally only offered to cadets entering Year 12 the next summer, or in the years above. The course will contain activities such as:
-
Minor tactics
-
Watermanship training
-
Command tasks
-
Sport
-
Skill-at-arms
-
Endurance training
For more information, see the Frimley Park website or speak to Major Payne.
Senior Cadet Instructors Course
The SCIC course is a week long residential course held at Beckingham training camp, near Newark. The purpose of the course is to develop senior cadets as teachers, and to qualify them to teach a variety of subjects to more junior cadets, such as drill, skill-at-arms, navigation, or fieldcraft. The week consists of intensive teaching and lesson planning/preparation, allowing cadets to develop their skills in each of the four areas and become competent instructors. There is also a night navigation exercise and a spectacular final exercise. Upcoming courses are:
-
Fri, 12 February 2010 – Fri, 19 February 2010
-
Fri, 15 October 2010 – Fri, 22 October 2010
-
Fri, 22 October 2010 – Fri, 29 October 2010
-
Fri, 18 February 2011 – Fri, 25 February 2011
You will need to be in Year 12 or above to apply for this course, which usually runs in October half term, and for more information please see Major Payne as soon as possible, as places are limited.
Signalling
There are currently three different courses for cadets run by the Royal School of Signals (RSS Blandford). These are:
- A six day combined classification and post-classification course (run in February and October each year, hopefully in half term weeks). There are no prior requirements to attend this course, though it is an advantage to have basic knowledge of the cadet syllabus and to know the phonetic alphabet. This will run on October 24th - 30th 2009.
- A five day post-classification course. To attend this course, you will have either had to have previously attended a classification course or undertaken signals training within the school. These courses are run at Easter and in the Summer holidays each year. The next course is on August 2nd - 7th 2009.
- A five day cadet advanced signals course. These courses are also run at Easter and in the Summer holidays each year. It is an advantage, although not essential, to have attended either of the courses described in the first two above. This will run on August 9th - 14th 2009.
For more information, please see Lt. Col. Clarke or see the ACF/CCF Signals website here.
Army Careers Courses
The Army runs a variety of courses which it offers to all who have an interest in joining, these are free of charge. Courses typically run over a weekend or week, and involve spending time with an regiment or unit, or are more general 'look at life' courses where challenging activities are run by qualified instructors. Placements are available with most units, and there are regular courses run. For more information please see WO2 Currie.
