We play a simple air combat game using 1:144 scale World War I aircraft. These models have the advantage of being cheap, easy to assemble and paint, and the rules are easy to follow.
Boys who wish to purchase their own models and bring them could buy them from Skytrex who are based in Loughborough. Their website is at
www.skytrex.com although other manufacturers in this scale produce equally good models. The rules used are Paragon's Aerial Dogfight Rules (from 1977). These are possibly the same as the Skytrex Red Eagle rules.
These models need a heavy stable base and look best when mounted on a telescoping stand. Suggestions on how to make these can be found below as downloadable PDF files.
Players also need a playsheet modified for their particular aircraft. A template, in both Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat formats, can be downloaded below. This should then be printed and laminated to make a durable playsheet that can be written on with waterbased OHP markers.
