World War II Skirmish

The Junior Wargames Society plays World War 2 skirmish battles using a set of rules devised by Mr Rood using 28mm figures.  The figures we use are from Boltaction Miniatures, although many manufacturers produce suitable figures.

The games are played on a table approximately 1.2m x 1.2m and operate on a WYSIWYS (What You See Is What You Shoot) basis.  The squad selection process allows for a variation in forces and allows you to adapt the squad you field to the scenario.

Squads must be comprised of units totaling no more than 15 points.  Standard units and their points are:

  • 1 pt : Riflemen
  • 2 pt : Medic (unarmed but can heal wounded soldiers)
  • 2 pt : NCO (each squad must have at least 1 NCO or Officer)
  • 2 pt : SMG (Sub Machine Gun)
  • 2 pt : ATR (Anti-Tank Rifle)
  • 3 pt : Officer (Greater moral than an NCO but lower firepower)
  • 3 pt : RPG (Rocket Propelled Grenade)
  • 3 pt : LMG (Light Machine Gun) operated by 2 soldiers.
  • 4 pt : Light Mortar operated by 2 soldiers.
  • 6 pt : HMG (Heavy Machine Gun) operated by at least 2 soldiers.
  • 6 pt : Heavy Mortar operated by 3 soldiers.

For example a general purpose squad might have: 1 NCO, 1 Medic, 1 LMG, 1 Light Mortar, & 4 Riflemen.

At the moment, the rules are simply based on small scale infantry v infantry skirmishes.  These may be expanded later to include armour if there is a desire amongst players.

At the moment the society has 1 German Squad and 1 Russian Squad.  Feel free to bring along your own squad if you want to.

Painting guides and a little bit of information about the different troop types can be found on the boltaction website.
