Personal Safety

The latest British Crime Survey statistics show that 16 - 24 year old men are more at risk than any other group in society of being the victim of violent crime.  Therefore, it is essential that boys and young men learn how to reduce the risk they face and take precautions to avoid violence and aggression.

Letting people see that you have got money or valuables like an mp3 player or mobile phone is often a sure way of getting yourself mugged.  Keep them out of sight!  If you are using a cash machine, check first to see that there is nobody hanging around near you.  Make sure that no-one can see the pin number you put in and put your money away whilst you are still facing the machine.

Try and stay aware of what is going on around you.  If you see something ahead that could mean trouble, then change your route so that you can avoid the problem before it happens.

If you would like safety advice the school has leaflets for two age groups, 10 - 15 years and 16 - 24 years, these are available from the medical room or the library, where you will also find more information on safety.

Year 8 will be having a talk on personal safety.
