 Recommended Reading

School Librarians are often asked for reading lists and many trees are felled and photocopies made in an effort to reduce the long list of possible choices to a notable few.  The following  books are primarily chosen with reading for pleasure in mind.

The allocated age groups are not written in stone but are simply guides.  If you find it difficult to find time to read or difficult to get through a book, the lower school suggestions are all popular, well written, tried and tested. They are often part of a series which will help you to ‘get stuck in’ to a good reading routine.

The Year 9 suggestions have story lines that address more teenage concerns and are on subjects that might be more relevant to you as you get older.

Year 10/11 choices are provocative and hard-hitting.

Sixth form suggestions are some ‘must reads’ of a contemporary intellect!

I have mixed some recognisable classic titles , with some newly published books to give you a good grounding in quality fiction.  All these Authors are Excellent!

Get in the swing of making time for a good book.  The effect on your writing will be huge.

3 Steps to Choosing a Great Book

1.    Take your time.  Whether you are in a Library or Bookshop, take time to browse.

2.   Listen to recommendations but be aware that everyone is different.

3.   Read the blurb and first paragraph.  They are designed to hook you!
