The 3rd Annual Dads v Lads and Summer Funday took place on the 28th June 2009 at the ON’s grounds in Adbolton in glorious sunshine. Last year the Dads claimed a dubious victory on a technicality based (erroneously) on the Duckworth Lewis principle after rain washed out the match. No such excuses this year as the sun shined on us but arguably “we woz robbed” because of our kindness to the older generation. In a bizarre 13-a-side 20/20 match the Dads snatched victory in scoring 123 to our 109 runs. We were kind to them and in deference to their seniority allowed them this victory.
There was some wonderful play on both sides. In particular, Mr Stansfield scored 22 runs before retiring and the Fisher family were well-represented on both sides. Mr Bailey took 2 wickets and we (the Lads) were rather taken aback by the agility of some of our fathers! We look forward to the re-match next year and I warn the Dads – “be afraid, be very afraid!” Next year we will all be a foot taller – the Dads will be a year older!! Thanks to Mr Highfield and the other volunteers (or were they pressed men?) for helping umpire and to the Friends and Mr.Boswell for all the organisation. See you next year!
