The Art Department consists of 3 fully equipped Art rooms, a gallery space and designated Sixth Form Art studio. We have extensive facilities including a purpose built print area, ceramic studio and digital art facilities.
Our committed passionate and enthusiastic staff consists of 4 part time teachers with specialisms in print ceramics and fine art. The department also employs a specialist Art Technician. Thanks to this team of staff with their variety of skills, artistic training and experiences, pupils are able to experience a varied and exciting curriculum. We want all pupils to have a unique and enriching experience of making Art; equipping them with the skills, techniques, knowledge and understanding to produce work to the best of their individual abilities.
We offer an exciting varied and ambitious programme of study.
There is an annual theme, used as the starting point for KS3 projects; Year 7 creates a large scale mural in response to the theme each year. We take pupils on a variety of curriculum trips to galleries and also offer residential trips. Recent trips have included the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Chatsworth House, London and Liverpool.
The Art Department regularly works with visiting and practicing artists, giving students the opportunity to create work beyond the classroom curriculum. For example, breeze block carving with Simon Kent and willow sculpture with Caroline Gregson.
Regular Life Drawing sessions run throughout the year for students in Years 10-13. The Art Department hold an annual Summer Art Exhibition celebrating the GCSE, AS and A2 Level work created through the year.
