At Nottingham High School we aim to provide more than academic excellence, we aim to give our students opportunities to gain skills that prepare them for life.
Our co-curriculum is everything that we run alongside our academic curriculum, and is a tremendously important part of what we offer here at the High School.
We provide a wealth of opportunities and encourage each pupil to develop their current interests and explore new ones.
As a School we are incredibly proud of the quality and variety of activities offered to our students and the tremendous benefits we see through their involvement in this programme.
Tutors provide help and guidance to encourage tutees to take opportunities to develop as both students and people. Through our co-curriculum we promote skills in areas such as teamwork and communication, leadership, physical activity, culture and service to others.
Our House system provides further encouragement and opportunities for pupils and students to take part in cultural, sporting and charity activities.
From elite level involvement in the Performing Arts and Sports, to participation in clubs and societies and charity events, to our provision of termly whole School Activity Days, there is an absolute wealth of opportunities here at Nottingham High School.
Music plays an important part in School life. There are opportunities for all types of musician and many pupils from all sections of the School are involved. We have an impressive array of instrumental and choral groups and ensembles, and individual tuition is also offered.
A tremendous variety of performance opportunities are provided and enjoyed by the School community as a whole. We can host many different types of concert in School using our purpose built Recital Hall and performance facilities, as well as regular performances at top-class venues in Nottingham and further afield.
Masterclass visits from leading musicians continue to provide inspiration and opportunities for our pupils to learn and develop, further enhancing the experience of the many involved with this vibrant area of the co-curriculum.
Drama is thriving at Nottingham High School and there are many opportunities throughout the year for pupils to be involved in performance or in support of performance as part of our Production Team.
With annual major productions for the Senior School and the Lower School, we are able to showcase fantastic talent in our Founder Hall and Drama Studio.
Alongside these large scale, high quality performances, co-curricular Drama plays an important role in the provision of opportunities for our pupils and students to develop. Trust, self-confidence and communication skills are encouraged through projects which form part of our Enrichment programme, and our involvement with LAMDA tuition.
Sport is a major part of life at Nottingham High School, as we encourage our pupils to be active and to develop a healthy lifestyle. Sporting excellence is an element of our heritage, as the High School is well known for the quality of its sport in terms of achievement and participation.
For girls and boys, top level coaching and competition can be enjoyed whilst using our first class facilities. Provision of regular fixtures in our competitive sports such as rugby, hockey, netball, cricket, football, tennis, athletics and cross-country allow opportunities for an impressive number of our pupils to represent the School. House competitions provide even more opportunities to take part in representative sports.
There is also a range of optional sports in various year groups including archery, badminton, climbing, squash, swimming, tennis and zumba.
Everyone, regardless of their level, is encouraged to get involved and enjoy sport. With access to our Valley Road games fields and on-site facilities such as the sports hall, swimming pool, fitness suite and climbing wall we genuinely try to offer sport for all.
We encourage our pupils to embrace the many opportunities provided to partake in learning outside of the classroom. High quality trips, visits and expeditions add great value to a pupils' time at Nottingham High School and there are wonderful opportunities for all age-groups.
We are fortunate to be able to offer our pupils access to a rich variety of both residential and day trips. Whilst many are directly linked to the curriculum, the benefits to pupils go far beyond the purely academic. Our trips, visits and expeditions help facilitate personal development, from working as a team, to good time management and the chance to really stretch and test each individual. By visiting different places we can better understand them and have a greater appreciation of our own environment and culture.
Through student exchanges, cultural tours, sports tours, challenging expeditions and trips across the UK and to all corners of the globe, the opportunities add up to a wealth of unforgettable experiences.
Our strong programme of clubs and societies which run during lunchtime or after school provide more opportunities for pupils and students to develop their skills and experiences.
A range of clubs for all age groups exist to support and extend curriculum learning, whilst other clubs exist to allow pupils to explore or discover their interests in other areas. Whilst national and even international level success has been achieved in areas such as Young Engineers, Target 2.0 and other academic and co-curricular academic competitions, also important are the opportunities for pupils and students to simply pursue interests and hobbies.
From Chemistry Clubs to Climbing Clubs, Maths Buddy Scheme to Music Technology, Art Clubs to Language Ambassadors, a wide variety of choice is offered in our Enrichment Activities Programme, which is updated termly.
Sixth Form students are actively encouraged to be involved in the setting up and support of the diverse range of clubs and societies. Some activities, such as Young Enterprise, Debating Society and the Arts Society have run successfully for a number of years, whilst senior students have also enjoyed great success in establishing new societies.
