Following a request we explain here some of the scholarships and awards that are listed each year in the Speech Day programme:
Lovell Order:
These ties are awarded to boys who have given notable service to the School but who have not received any other formal recognition.
Samuel Maples' Scholars
These are always the School Captain and two Vice Captains.
Sir Thomas White's Scholars and Dame Agnes Mellers' Scholars
These are awarded to those boys that perform best in the GCSE examinations each year. Other boys who gain all A grades or better are the GCSE Examination scholars. All of these groups are awarded Foundation ties.
Foundation Scholars
These are boys who gain 3 Grade As or better at A level. They are awarded Foundation ties or are rewarded them if they have received them already for their GCSE performance.
Entrance Scholars
These are boys who have been awarded scholarships based on their performance in the Entrance examination. Each year one of this group is chosen as the Representative scholar to take part in the Cheese and Ale Ceremony at the Council House.
