Awards are a great way of boosting your confidence and helping to achieve your own targets. You probably had an award scheme in your old school, which involved merits, stickers, points or some other scoring system.
At Nottingham High School the awards are called Distinctions. You can gain these by doing good work, helping on open day or by doing well for your house. You get a lot more Distinctions than house certificates. You’ll be told which house you’re in at the beginning of the year. House certificates are slightly different to Distinctions because they are a different colour and are awarded for sport. They still count as one Distinction, though.
Distinctions are written in your planner (so don’t lose it!) and your teacher will sign each one to say what you achieved.
For every ten Distinctions you are awarded, you get to see the Headmaster by making an appointment with the secretary. When you go, you should take two pieces of work with you that gained you those Distinctions. And don’t be worried if you compete to see who can get the most Distinctions in your Tutor set because you can only try as hard as you can even if other people get more.
