Sport at the High School

Sport is one of the greatest things at the High School as you will get nothing else like it. All sports are taught on surface areas fit for the sport, with six rugby pitches and two football pitches at all of us will have improved in some way in our sporting areas by the end of term.
The main sports at the High School are probably swimming and rugby. Swimming is a major thing, going unbeaten for seven years running; the school swimming team is doing great and they train hard three days a week. The galas are fun but competitive and I enjoy them and being part of the swimming team makes you feel proud. is another sport that I enjoy greatly. Don't worry if you haven't played rugby before because most people haven't so just have fun and don't feel embarrassed if you make a mistake. The under twelve's team this year did extremely well, going unbeaten for most of the season and then taking part in the Warwick sevens tournament and reaching the final.

Sports Day at the High School is fun. You get to run races, do jumps, throw javelins and discus with an audience watching! You can invite your mum and dad and even bring your grandparents along. You have athletics to train up towards it, if you don't get chosen to represent your house you can still watch the other boys participate.
In the first games lesson you will be put into 'games'. There is ‘A’ Game for those of you who are very confident at sport. ‘B’ Game for those of you who are confident at sport. ‘C’ Game for those of you who struggle with sports and ‘D’ Game for those of you who struggle quite a lot with sport. But don't worry if you get put into a game in which you feel uncomfortable in because you will get moved up or down depending on your ability as time passes. The teachers are all experienced and qualified and will get to know you as soon as they can.

There are lots of different sports that give you a chance to excel. Even if you think that you are not a sporting person as there is something for everyone. is played from September to February, Athletics up to Easter, and then Cricket or Tennis until the end of the summer term. In and Cricket Year 7 is split into different groups depending on ability and experience. There is opportunity for you to move within groups so everyone has a chance of getting in the school teams. At the end of the rugby season there is always a house competition, where your Housemaster makes a team out of the best players in your house. It is great fun as there is always some friendly rivalry between the houses.
There is more to athletics than running around in the freezing cold wearing a skimpy vest and shorts. The facilities are really good and as well as the usual running events you get an opportunity to try out the hurdles, javelin, shot-put; and triple-jump which is really good. You do your athletics standards in all the events gaining points up to a maximum of 5 for each event. You have to try and score the most points for your house. If you do well in a particular event you get to compete for your house in Sports Day.
Cricket is great fun, you get the chance to be selected for winter nets. Coaching and games are played weekly throughout the summer term ending with the House Cricket competition.
