The Design Technology Department at Nottingham High School draws on the most appropriate aspects of the National Curriculum and other sources of best practice for Design and Technological education, to provide an experience of the subject tailored for the intelligent boys from a wide range of social backgrounds that form the intake of the school.

 

The range of designing and making activities that the boys undertake allow them to apply their creativity, intellect and skills to solve open ended problems in a range of increasingly challenging contexts appropriate to their age and ability.  The department has developed over many years a strong specialism in the Electronics and Systems and Control areas of the subject, that has proved motivating and appropriate for the talented pupils of this academic school. This subject area provides unique curriculum opportunities for pupils to work on extended tasks, where they synthesize and apply knowledge from this and many other subject areas to solve realistic problems, providing a unique life skill with many applications throughout their subsequent lives and careers beyond school.
