Advanced Club (Years 7 and 8)
Nottingham High School English Department actively promotes challenges for the gifted and talented. Boys who display particular skills in using and interpreting language are invited to attend the Advanced Reading Club, which sets out to:
- Add breadth (e.g. a broader range of texts and tasks)
- Give depth (e.g. more detail and complexity)
- Accelerate the pace of learning (e.g. tackling objectives earlier)
- Develop higher-order learning skills (e.g. analysis, synthesis, evaluation)
- Promote independence
- Support reflection and self-evaluation
Drama Club (Years 7-9)
This highly popular club gives the boys the option to extend and explore in detail the drama skills and techniques they learn through their English studies. It also provides an opportunity for them to collaborate in, and evaluate, the presentation of dramatic performances, which explore character, relationships and issues.
