Easdale Tarn lies in a rock basin that was formed by a cirque glacier perched high up above the main valley of Far Easdale.  It is surrounded by a steep rocky backwall showing evidence of plucking and a small terminal moraine on the rock lip helps to contain the tarn.

Having completed the circular walk and seen all the features of glaciation we headed back to Ambleside (Waterhead) where we took a large lake steamer for a cruise down to Bowness.  Jet skis and speed boats constantly buzzed across the boat's wake ..... possibly this is the last year that high speed water sports will be allowed on Lake Windermere.  The speed ban controversy is still very much alive with local businesses still lobying for some compromise eg: zoning or designated days.

This was the view from outside the front of Ambleside Youth Hostel where we stayed on the Saturday night ..... before the group ventured into town to completely fill the small cinema for a showing of an instantly forgetable Tom Cruise film!
