You may enjoy discussing and researching environmental issues such as global climate change or hazardous events that have recently affected parts of our world, for example Hurricane Ivan.

Or you may prefer to get hands on with some modelling, for example using the water flume or sand tray to simulate processes that operate along a rivers course...

How about taking part in a group display on volcanic eruptions...
...or using instruments to measure the weather on a regular basis to keep track of local trends?

What did we do last year?

We used the sand tank to create deltas and simple river systems. This showed us how deltas such as the Nile and Mississippi grow into the sea and also how meanders and river terraces form.  We also saw the effects of sea level changes ...... and what happens when the tap is turned on full blast!

In the weeks leading up to Christmas we constructed our own working models of volcanoes using drinks bottles, straws and a lot of paper and glue!  To make the erutions we mixed vinegar, sodium bicarbonate and red food colouring together.  Have a look at the photographs to see the result of our efforts.
