What is Geography like in
Years 7 to 9?
The aim of our geography lessons in these first few years at NHS is primarily to foster an enjoyment of the subject, as well as to develop skills and techniques that will be useful later at GCSE and Advanced Level.
A diverse range of activities are used throughout our lessons such as ICT based exercises, individual research tasks, whole class debates and role play, extended written reports and group presentations.
Geography is taught as two single (35 or 40 minute) lessons and one homework per week.
There are relevant excursions in every year to supplement work done in the classroom. Please see
Fieldwork and Visits for more detail on these.
The course content within Years 7 to 9 follows a core textbook series "Geography for Key Stage 3" - a course that has been written to match the revised National Curriculum at KS 3. Each boy is given his own copy of the textbook for the year. In Year 9, the first part of the course is also based on the textbook "A New Wider World".
