ICT Good Practice

Please ensure the good practice taught in Year 7 is continued up through the school:

  1. Give the file a name (save in My Documents) straight away and save it every 5 minutes.
  2. Input the text.
  3. Format using the ICT Department “house style” (see NHS house formatting style attachment) except for work intended for display when WordArt etc can be used.
  4. When using pictures from the Internet, right click and use Save As to put in My Pictures folder use a relevant name to make it easier to find later.  Delete when you have finished with it.
  5. Pictures need to be formatted to allow them to be moved around; right click select Format Picture, Layout and choose Square or Tight.
  6. When using colour ensure any text is legible – note the colours appear darker when printed than on the screen.
  7. Align the picture to the left or right; right click select Format Picture, Layout and choose the relevant Horizontal Alignment option.
  8. When researching on the Internet paraphrase the text as it maybe copyrighted.
  9. Spell Check, Proof Read and use Print Preview (ensure you have not got extra, unwanted pages) to avoid unnecessary use of print credits.
  10. Ensure you have the correct printer selected.
  11. Keep My Documents current and orderly
    1. delete old files
    2. use folders to ensure files are easy to retrieve
