February '08
 
Ten Sixth Form boys gained a Gold Certificate in the recent UKMT Senior Maths Callenge.  They are Jack Noutch, Ankush Kandelwal, Daniel Hughes, Edwin Pynegar, Will Twemlow, Chris Rossiter, Peter Sumner, Chris Putman, Hao Han and Cheng He who also achieved the highest mark in the school. 
 
Chris Putman, Edwin, Hao and Cheng also participated in the first Olympiad qualifying round scoring (out of 60) 11, 20, 29 and 30 respectively.  Cheng was also awarded a distinction for this performance. Well done to all.

Dalraj Tamber and Ted Pynegar obtained gold certifiactes in the UKMT Intermediate Maths challenge and qualified for the British Olympiad. 
 
In the Team Maths Challenge Regional Final, another competition run by the UKMT, the High School's team of Ben Hollis, Kyle Lam, Ian Robson and Sam James saw off many other schools to finish third out of seventeen.  Well done to all.

11 Boys are to be congratulated on gaining a Gold Certificate in the recent UKMT Senior Maths Challenge.  Well done to:
 
T Yang, J Jones, M Islam, E MacDonald, W Twemlow, T He, J McNiven Young, J Bradbury, D Harrison, T Lambarth, and C Putman.  The first six named boys also qualified for the British Maths Olympiad.

2006/7 British Mathematical Olympiad Questions:
 
1.  Find four prime numbers less than 100 which are factors of 332 - 232
 
3.  The number 916238457 is an example of a nine-digit number which contains each of the digits 1 to exactly once.  It also has the property that the digits 1 to 5 occur in their natural order, while the digits 1 to six do not.  How many such numbers are there?

The strongest Mathematicians in the Sixth Form sat the UKMT Senior Maths Challenge.  11 and 17 boys gained Bronze and Silver certificates respectively and 11 boys obtained a Gold certificate (typically awarded to the top 6% of candidates). 
 
Tianxia Yang, Jonathan Jones and Maidul Islam are all congratulated for qualifiying for the next round of the competition the British Mathematical Olympiad.  Good luck.
 
 
Shaun Lazzari wins first prize on the September to November Senior Problem sheet and scoops a well deserved £5.
