The department is made up of specialist linguists. The strength of the department is both in the subject knowledge of the teachers and in their enthusiasm for languages and language learning.
We are fortunate in having both an established department with many years of teaching experience and a trainee secondary teacher, already experienced in teaching at University level, who is completing a flexible modular PGCE in 2004/05.
We are also fortunate in having the continuity of established French and German language assistants and a new Spanish assistant in 2004/05.
The range of activities, trips, visits, exchanges and plays on offer demonstrates the department’s commitment to the delivery of an enriched programme of study.
The role of Year co-ordinators guarantees attention to detail, efficient use of human resources and a constantly improving delivery of the curriculum.
The fact that the department includes three Principal Examiners at GCSE and GCE adds to the expertise and achievement focus of the department.
The department is proud to be the instigators and leaders of the Young Linguist initiative due to become a national competition under the banner of ISMLA.
Self-access courses
The Department aims to support the pupils’ taught languages and to give the chance for pupils to learn a new language by providing materials and equipment for self- access. A further aim is to develop self-discipline and directed self-study skills.
