Introduction
Welcome to the Hockey section for Nottingham High School.
Hockey is played in the school during the Autumn Term and the first half of the Spring Term and is introduced as a games option in year 9 and continues through to year 13. It is freely available for all boys to choose with the exception of the A and B game Rugby Squads for each year.
Boys can opt into the sport as their games option and are then encouraged to work and develop their skills, with the eventual aim to represent the school at the sport.
Boys in year 9 will be introduced to the skills of the sport and will be introduced to the laws and techniques required to play, with a great emphasis being placed upon fundamental basics. These skills are then further developed along with the introduction of team drills and set plays.
In year 10 these skills are further expanded along with the more technical aspects that are required for the game, as well as more definitive team and positional requirements.
At present the school runs sides at Under 14's, under 15's 'A' and 'B' teams, under 16's and under 18's - first, second and third teams - although on occassions other additional sides may be formed to play fixtures, if available.
All school hockey sessions take place at the Highfields Hockey Centre, which is the home of Beeston Hockey Club, where we have access to 2 full size pitches and a 1/2 size training pitch. Boys are bused down for their games sessions and return back to school afterwards.
As with all High School sports teams there is a regulation dress code. For hockey, boys are required to wear school clothing, with both shirts and training tops available from the school shop.
For any team fixture the school will play in the following colours :
- Black Shirt - White Shorts - Black Socks with white top.
For safety, shin pads are compulsory with a gum shield, glove and box all being strongly recommeneded, which is in line with the National Hockey Association guidelines.
School goalkeepers are supplied with a full kit of equipment that complies with the highest regulations for safety.
