Assessment
The Assessment Day for entry in September 2011 will be on Monday 24th January 2011. However, in unusual circumstances, for example, should a family move into the area at short notice or have some other good reason for their son not having taken the entrance assessment in January, it may be possible for their son to sit a supplementary assessment later in the year, at the discretion of the Headmaster and should a place be available. In the first instance, please call our Admissions department on 0115 845 2232.
Boys should be 7, 8, 9 or 10 years old on September 1st of the year of entry.
Birth dates for boys proposing to take the 2010 assessment with a view to entry in September 2010 are as follows:
Year 3 (age 7) entry - boys born between: 1.9.02 – 31.8.03
Year 4 (age 8) entry - boys born between: 1.9.01 – 31.8.02
Year 5 (age 9) entry - boys born between: 1.9.00 – 31.8.01
Year 6 (age 10) entry boys born between: 1.9.99 – 31.8.00
The results for all candidates will be confirmed within 14 days of the assessment.
Application Forms
For parents of boys eligible to take the 2010 Assessment, application forms are available by contacting Lynda Goodwin at: goodwin.la@nottinghamhigh.co.uk, or by clicking on the attachment at the foot of the page.
It is usual to seek references for candidates from their present school. Parents are therefore asked to inform their son’s present Headteacher, in advance, when their son is entered for the Assessment.
A non-refundable registration fee of £50 is payable to cover the cost of administering the assessment.
General
If a boy enters our Junior School Assessment and is unsuccessful there is no reason why he should not apply for the next age group the following year. We fully appreciate that much progress can be made in a year and that boys develop at different rates. This also applies to any boy who tries for the Year 6 (10) assessment and is unsuccessful; this result is not taken into account should he wish to sit the Senior School Entrance Examination the following year.
Boys in the Junior School do not automatically qualify for entry to the Senior School at 11+. All our boys have to take the same examination, on the same day, along with external candidates. However, we do pride ourselves on our record of boys entering into the Senior School, nearly all of whom do so. Any difficulties are, of course, identified and discussed with both the pupil and the parents well in advance of the 11+ examination.
