Spine-chilling book invasion in the cellars!

Book invasion in the cellars
Down in the crypt!

‘Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle: Physician, Author, Murderer?’

On Monday, 18th January, a special spine-chilling 'Book Invasion' took place in the cellars under Lovell House.

The School has extensive cellars dug into the ancient sandstone of the city.  Beneath Lovell House the cellars are crypt-like, unchanged since Victorian times;it is understood that bodies may have been stored here, in a makeshift morgue, during the Second World War before going on their final journey to the cemetery down the road.  This made the venue for the latest book invasion even more chilling!

Dr Colman reads Sherlock Holmes

A ‘Book Invader’ may pop up anywhere, anytime and they can be a member of staff, a pupil or visiting speaker from the school community, or beyond.

This particular 'Book Invader' was History teacher, Dr Clark Colman, who took pupils on a journey into the life of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and the real life mystery behind the creation of Sherlock Holmes’ most famous adventure, ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’.

"Stop scaring me!"

Book invasions take place at lunchtime and simply involve the speakers sharing a little bit about a book they have enjoyed and explaining why it’s special for them, followed by a short reading.
