The School Day
7.45am |
THE BREAKFAST CLUB A choice of hot and cold breakfast is available for Infant School pupils in the Senior Dining Hall from 7:45am to 8:35am – the perfect opportunity for parents to grab a bite to eat with their children at the beginning of the day. This is not supervised for Infant and Junior children, so they must be accompanied by an adult. |
8:00 am |
TIME IN THE CLASSROOM Infant School drop off begins at 8:00. Pupils can go straight to their classroom where there will be a variety of activities to get them settled and ready for the day ahead. This might be answering a puzzle on the board, reading for pleasure with a friend or getting in some handwriting practice. They will be supervised by either their teacher or teaching assistant who will be on hand to have a chat and sort out any worries before the day begins. |
8.30 am |
THE DAY BEGINS Each day starts with registration and choosing what to order from our menu for lunch. Once that important decision has been made it is time to get on with learning. Every morning begins with our Phonics sessions – learning the sounds that our pupils need to become successful readers and writers. |
9:10 am |
The children then move on to their first lesson of the day which is usually Maths. These lessons are very ‘hands on’ using a wide variety of concrete resources to help solve puzzles and problems. Mathematical reasoning is at the heart of these lessons and even some of our youngest pupils are asked to prove why their answer is correct. |
10:10 am |
Playtime It’s outside for a run around and have a well-earned break. This could be playing on the trim trail, playing with a ball or on the scooters or perhaps just a chat with friends. |
10:20 am |
Snacktime After our first play of the day we stop for milk and snacks. We learn how to share and eat a healthy diet with our fruit and a nutritious snack. |
10: 40 -11:00 am |
GUIDED READING Now it’s time to really focus on reading. In small groups we explore a text with our teacher who use the Reading Squirrels to make sure that we are asking and answering a wide range of questions to help deepen our understanding of what we are reading. |
11:00 – 12:00 pm |
Our final learning session of the morning is usually topic based English writing. We have a new Humanities topic every term from Super Heroes or Pirates to the Victorians or Chocolate. All of our topics are very hands-on and we often support learning with trips out of school or special visitors. We also tie-in our class readers with our topics to help inspire our pupils to be engaged with their writing and to be as creative as possible. |
12pm-1.00pm |
LUNCH Lunch is served in our designated Dining Hall by our Lovell House Chef Mel, who prepares all of the delicious and nutritious meals on site. Pupils also have the opportunity to play outside supervised by our wonderful team of Teaching Assistants. Alongside the Trim Trail we have lots of toys and games to keep our young children happy and engaged. |
1:00 pm |
AFTERNOON LESSONS After a quick registration we get on with the focus for the afternoon. That could be a science experiment or art project; ICT or PSHE. We might head up to the main school site for a swimming lesson or meet Mr Abdy in the hall for a PE session. We also have specialist teachers who teach us Music and French. |
3:15 pm |
END OF THE DAY ACTIVITIES We end our busy days with an assembly in the hall or singing session with Mrs Kawalec. If we stay in class it is time for a story or perhaps some Maths sings and Games |
3.45pm – 5.45pm |
DISMISSAL AND AFTER SCHOOL CLUB Children are collected from their teacher, or for those who need to stay in our care a little longer we have an After-School Club. To extend the window of collection time for all pupils, After School Club is free of charge until 4:30pm. In After School Club the children can relax, have a snack and enjoy a whole host of fun activities to help unwind from a busy day of learning at Lovell House. |
