FAQs

What are the class sizes?

In Reception, we have no more than 18 children per class. In Year 1 and Year 2, the maximum class size is 20. Each class in the Infant School has a teacher and a teaching assistant.

Class sizes in Years 3-6 are in the low 20s, with a maximum class size of 24 children. We have one Class Teacher per class in the Junior School.

Can my child take the school bus?

Our pupils can use the school bus from Year 3 onwards. Read more at https://www.nottinghamhigh.co.uk/school-life/transportbus-services.

What will my child eat for lunch, and what is the cost?

Children will choose healthy lunch options daily. Morning and afternoon snacks are also offered in the Infant School. Dietary requirements will be accommodated where possible. We are a nut-free school. See sample menu and costs here: https://www.nottinghamhigh.co.uk/school-life/school-catering

Can my child learn a musical instrument?

Lessons for Infant School pupils are offered by highly-qualified instrument teachers in Harp, Violin, Cello or Piano. See costs at https://www.nottinghamhigh.co.uk/admissions/school-fees

Our Reception pupils can also enjoy ‘Little Hands’, offered exclusively for our youngest learners. The weekly 30-minute session will include note learning, playing instruments and music games. The cost per session at time of writing is £26.07 (subject to change).

Once strong musical foundations have been laid, instrumental opportunities broaden in the Junior School, from Year 3 onwards. One-to-one tuition in the Junior School is available on the following instruments: Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Classical guitar, Electric guitar, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn, Euphonium, Tuba, Piano and Orchestral Percussion. What modern foreign languages do you teach?

In EYFS the children investigate languages as part of their Knowledge and Understanding of the World strand of the Early Learning Goals.  From Year 1 upwards the pupils have a weekly Spanish lesson with our specialist teacher. From Year 4 onwards, our pupils also study WoLLoW (World of Languages, Languages of the World), where they learn about the history, geography and mechanics of languages.

From Year 7, we teach French, German and Spanish, and pupils are required to study two of these for their first two years in the Senior School.
