Beyond Sixth Form

Our Sixth Form Careers provision ensures that students receive specific, focused guidance, enabling each student to decide what is right for them.

From the start of Year 12, students are encouraged to consider their options for life beyond School. Through the Sixth Form programme, assemblies, special events such as the School Careers Fair, use of the Unifrog careers platform, and numerous extra-curricular and super-curricular opportunities, students explore the various pathways open to them. Throughout their time in the Sixth Form, students also have frequent 1 to 1 discussions with the Sixth Form Team, tutors, and our Head of Careers who is a qualified careers advisor.

We pride ourselves on our record of helping our students to secure places on highly competitive courses at top universities. We guide students and their families carefully through the application and decisions process, whether students wish to study in the UK or abroad. Students interested in applying for Oxford and Cambridge Universities, for courses related to Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine, or for specialist music or drama courses, benefit from dedicated support from experienced members of the Sixth Form Team and academic staff.

Students applying for apprenticeship schemes are also given specialist support for the highly competitive and demanding application process. In recent years, we have been delighted to support students in securing degree apprenticeships with employers such as AstraZeneca, EY, Rolls-Royce, Leonardo, and Cripps.

We are also keen to emphasise the importance of employability skills and networking, ensuring that students thrive in their working lives. A highlight of Year 12 is the Employability Skills Challenge, where students have mock interviews and make presentations to a panel of governors, parents, and Old Nottinghamians, resulting in invaluable feedback. We also make sure that students understand the power of online networking on LinkedIn, and we create opportunities for students to network with Old Nottinghamians and employers in-person.
